Travellers who will be driving on foreign roads during ferry breaks and other trips abroad have been reminded of the importance of safety and preparation.
Companies such as
P&O,
SeaFrance and
Norfolkline/
DFDS Seaways operate
ferries to France and many other destinations in the UK and Ireland, offering holidaymakers the convenience of going away with their own car.
While driving abroad provides flexibility and independence, Abta - The Travel Association stressed the importance of motorists being aware of local laws and using the roads safely.
Nikki White, head of destinations and sustainability for the association, said: "Although statistically the chances of being caught in a road accident whilst on holiday abroad are small, accidents can and do occur.
"Many Abta tour operators work closely with local companies providing transfers and car hire arrangements to operate appropriate safety standards and also with the Foreign Office to raise customer awareness on how to minimise potential risks as part of their 'Know Before You Go' campaign."
Once they have completed their research and preparation, ferry travellers can look forward to sailing with companies such as
Stena Line,
Irish Ferries and
LD Lines to explore some of the most exciting destinations in the UK, Ireland and Europe.
