The Alsace region is worth considering for people planning to take ferries to France this year, according to the Telegraph.
As part of its 'insider's guide' to France, the newspaper said that many people will be looking to Europe for their holidays this year.
Alsace, which is located in the north-east, "shouldn't be overlooked in the race south to catch the sun", writes Telegraph journalist Ferne Arfin.
Travel options include the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is served by P&O Ferries and
Seafrance, and
LD Lines' ferries to Le Havre from Portsmouth.
Upon arrival in Alsace, visitors can take in natural sights such as the Vosges mountains and absorb the local culture, which combines German, Swiss and Flemish elements.
The newspaper also recommends trying local food and drink, such as 'tarte flambee', a dish described as a cross between pizza and quiche that comes with toppings ranging from cheese and bacon to apples and cinnamon.
Visitors can also sample some fine alcoholic creations along the Alsatian wine route, which encompasses 51 destinations in the Vosges foothills.
Other travel options for British holidaymakers planning a trip to France include the Cherbourg and St Malo ferry routes, which are served by
Brittany Ferries and
Condor Ferries from Portsmouth.
