France 'set for good ski season' | | | | 26 September 2008 | People planning self-drive ski holidays to France will be happy to hear that the country's government tourist office is predicting another good winter season.
Maison de la France announced that tour operators are already reporting good ski holiday sales, suggesting that the country's ski resorts will replicate last year's strong figures.
A number of French skiing hotspots are investing in new developments this year, including an ecological project consisting of six chalets with gardens in Courchevel.
Brand new hotels will also be opening over the coming season in Chamonix, Les Arcs, Tignes, Val d'Isere and Courchevel, among others.
Jean-Pierre Courteau, UK director of Maison de la France, said: "French ski resorts are investing a lot of money to improve their accommodation and to offer skiers a greener environment and these improvements should help France to keep its pole position with British skiers."
The tourist office also pointed out that self-drive ski holidays are still a popular option among people travelling to France.
One of the major events of the ski season will come in February in Val d'Isere, when the resort will host the World Alpine Ski Championship. |
