Freight ferry to Norway is launched
A new freight-only ferry link is to be created between the Forth and Norway.
The weekly Motorway of the Sea service will connect Rosyth with Kristiansand via the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. It is hoped more sailings and passenger accommodation will be added once the service is up and running.
The sailings are scheduled to be in place by the end of this year, along with another route connecting Kristiansand with Shetland.
Transport experts believe the new service will attract major freight business and be a boost to the east of Scotland economy.
Russell Imrie, chairman of regional transport body Sestran, said: "Sestran was determined this new service would have its UK landfall at Rosyth. We believe it has the potential to provide a major boost to the region's economy."
Moregruppen, the Norwegian consortium behind the plans, has been trying to establish a UK-Norway ferry service for over three years.
There were fears that Rosyth would miss out on the Norwegian link to a port in the north-east of England.
Rolf Kåre Saether, chairman of Moregruppen, said: "We have been working on this project for a number of years now and we are glad that we have a successful bidder in John White."
