GLD Atlantique today (September 16th) launches a new route linking
Saint-Nazaire in north-west France to
Gijon in northern Spain, providing a new service for travellers to book through aferry.co.uk.
The company, which is a joint venture between
LD Lines and
Grimaldi Lines, will initially offer up to three weekly
ferries from Saint-Nazaire to Gijon, with a journey time of around 14 hours.
Frequency could be increased to seven return trips per week as the service progresses.
Passengers will be transported on a roll-on/roll-off ship with the capacity to carry up to 150 trailers and 800 people.
Announced earlier this year, the route was described as the first "Franco-Spanish motorway of the sea".
It will allow travellers to access destinations such as Nantes in north-west France, which is home to attractions including the famous Saint-Pierre cathedral and the Musee des Beaux-Arts.
Gijon is located within the Asturias province in north-west Spain, close to other picturesque cities such as Aviles and Oviedo.
People travelling from the UK can take
ferries to Spain with
Brittany Ferries, which offers regular services from Portsmouth and Plymouth to Santander.
