Ferries to France could prove more popular than ever with art lovers this summer following the recent opening of a new museum in Normandy.
The Musee des Impressionismes in Giverny, which was originally opened as the Museum of American Art in 1992, began welcoming visitors to its inaugural exhibition on May 1st.
Dedicated exclusively to Impressionism, the museum showcases the work of artists such as Claude Monet, JMW Turner and Alfred Sisley, exploring the inspiration they took from the landscapes of Normandy.
The first exhibition, which people on ferry holidays will be able to see until August 15th, features around 30 garden paintings by Monet that have been borrowed from prestigious institutions such as the Musee d'Orsay.
People who have an interest in Monet's art can also catch ferries to France to see Rouen Cathedral, which provided the subject for a series of his most famous paintings.
Travellers can catch
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre or from Dover to Dieppe with LD Lines, or use the Portsmouth to Caen ferry service provided by Brittany Ferries to reach Normandy.
