Hague museum explores 20th century art |  | | | 28 November 2008 | ferry trips to Holland may be a tempting option for people with an interest in contemporary art over the coming months as the Gemeentemuseum in the Hague hosts a major exhibition on the topic.
On November 8th, the museum launched a display entitled XXth Century, which features a broad range of modern pieces filling two floors of its main building.
Work by some of the most influential figures in contemporary art features in the exhibition, including Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg and Markus Lupertz.
As well as showcasing the work of several artists, the display provides information on historical events such as the Wall Street crash, the Russian revolution and other occurrences that provide a context to the artwork.
The Hague's Gemeentemuseum is currently playing host to a number of exhibitions, exploring subjects ranging from Dutch family symbols in Chinese porcelain to the work of Jozef and Isaac Israels.
Situated close to the coast of Holland, the Hague, or Den Haag as it is known in Dutch, is easily accessible for people travelling to the country by ferry.
DFDS Seaways sails daily from Newcastle to Amsterdam, while P&O Ferries offers services from Hull to Rotterdam and Stena Line operates between Harwich and Hook of Holland. |
