People with an interest in new and unusual cinema will be catching ferries to Amsterdam in April to experience the city's Fantastic Film Festival.
Due to take place between April 15th and 26th this year at the Dutch capital's Pathe Tuschinski venue, the festival has developed into something of a cultural institution in Amsterdam.
The main focus of the event is European and international thriller, cult, horror and science-fiction movies.
One of the highlights of the Fantastic Film Festival is a marathon night of horror film screenings, with other events including discussions, movie retrospectives and award ceremonies.
The Silver Scream award is handed to the most popular film of the festival on the basis of viewer votes. In the past, this accolade has gone to movies such as Kung Fu Hustle, Donnie Darko and From Dusk Till Dawn.
Movie fans can attend the festival by catching a ferry to Amsterdam from Newcastle with DFDS Seaways. Alternately, P&O Ferries sails from Hull to Rotterdam and Stena Line operates a route from Harwich to Hook of Holland.
