Head to Brittany to celebrate pomme | | | | 10 September 2008 | Brits planning ferry crossings to Brittany over the coming months may get the chance to join in with a French tradition of hosting festivals to celebrate particular foods and drinks.
A forthcoming event in the Brittany town of Bazouges-la-Perouse will focus its celebrations on pomme, a by-product of the cider-making process.
Pomme can be consumed as a drink or as a sugary paste, which meant that it used to be a staple part of the diet of some French towns in winter months.
Holidaymakers who travel to the Fete du Pomme on October 18th and 19th will be able to sample foods and drinks made from fruits that have been simmered in kettles over 24 hours.
Visitors will be able to try pomme as it is, or as a filling for various tarts and pastries.
There will also be markets to explore and entertainment provided by street performers and music shows.
British visitors can catch ferry crossings to Brittany from ports including Plymouth and Weymouth with Brittany Ferries and HD Ferries. |
