Holidays 'third most important expense for Brits' | | | | 31 July 2008 | Holidays have become so important that they are now the third biggest regular expense for British people, according to research.
A survey by private bank Cater Allen found that travelling is now behind only owning a home and saving for the future on British people's lists of expenses.
Holidaymakers from the UK now spend a collective total of £64 billion a year on travelling abroad, according to the research.
Around one in five people spend more than £2,500 on holidays every year while one in three invest more than ten per cent of their annual salary in travelling.
One of the factors influencing Brits' holiday choices appears to be star appeal, with a third of survey respondents admitting to choosing a glamorous destination, such as those in the south of France or Italy, as it is known as a celebrity hotspot.
Nearly half (46 per cent) of the people polled said they thought that holiday choices are reflective of a person as an individual. |
