People planning an autumn break this year can take a ferry to France to visit a destination that has been recommended by the Guardian.
The newspaper included the Cote d'Azur hotspot of Saint-Tropez on a list of locations that offer good weather and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere during the autumn months.
Writer Nicola Iseard said that the glamorous resort assumes "a whole new identity" after the summer, with beaches that are packed during the summer becoming "blissfully quiet".
People who visit between September 25th and October 3rd can check out the annual Regatta Les Voiles de St Tropez, which features some 300 yachts taking part in a series of races.
Travellers can start their French holiday by taking
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque or Boulogne with
Norfolkline or
LD Lines respectively, while both
P&O and
SeaFrance serve the
Dover to Calais ferry route.
Another destination recommended by the Guardian is Ile de Re, a small island located off the west coast of France.
Known for its sunny weather, the destination boasts 100km of cycle routes and plenty of beaches, vineyards, forests and other areas to explore.
Holidaymakers interested in seeing western France can sail with
Brittany Ferries, which provides
ferries from Portsmouth to St Malo, Cherbourg and Caen.
