Holidaymakers looking forward to taking a ferry to Ibiza to explore the island this summer may be surprised by what they find, according to a tourism industry spokesperson.
Carmen Hernandez Gomez, a market analyst at the Spanish Tourism Office, said that the destination is about more than the bars and nightclubs that attract so many visitors year after year.
"It is a destination that will surprise everyone - it surprised me - as it is not what you expect at all," she said. "People who visit definitely change their perception - we are working on the others."
Ms Gomez said there are a number of 'must-dos' for travellers planning to visit the island this year, including a walk through the old town area and a meal at a local restaurant.
Balearia are Acciona are the main providers of ferries to Ibiza, with regular services to the island from Valencia, Barcelona and Denia on the Spanish mainland.
The companies also operate ferries to Palma and Formentera from Ibiza, giving travellers the opportunity to extend their trip to other destinations in the Balearic Islands.
