Hovertravel has announced that it is to carry the first penguin across the Solent on its Southsea to Ryde route.
Dippy is a popular attraction at the Wildlife Encounter complex in Seaview, which is located just outside Ryde.
He regularly poses for pictures and socialises with visitors and even has a Facebook page.
In its announcement that it would be carrying Dippy to the Isle of Wight,
Hovertravel included a 'statement' from the penguin himself.
"I chose Hovertravel for my journey across the Solent because they are the greenest way to travel," he said.
"You don't even need a car to come and visit me on the island, I live at the Seaview Wildlife Encounter, which is just a short walk away from the hoverport."
The company operates crossings from Southsea to Ryde in around ten minutes.
People planning a trip to the Isle of Wight can also take
ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne or Ryde with
Wightlink, or alternatively book
ferries from Lymington to Yarmouth.
