Indian art on display in Amsterdam | | | | 21 November 2008 | The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is currently presenting an exhibition of Indian art from the collection of one of its fellow city art institutes, the Rijksmuseum.
This showcase, which people planning ferry trips to Amsterdam will be able to see until January 4th 2009, is part of the Amsterdam India Festival.
Around 50 Indian miniatures comprise the exhibition, representing a valuable but relatively unknown part of the Rijksmuseum's collection.
Dating from as early as the 15th century up to the 19th century, the pieces in the display focus on a range of subjects, including landscapes, animals, domestic situations and war scenes.
The Van Gogh Museum regularly exhibits work from other Amsterdam galleries. Until April 5th 2009, visitors to the museum can see a showcase of French fauvist and German expressionist pieces from the collection of the Stedelijk Museum.
Ferry crossings to Amsterdam are available with DFDS Seaways, which sails to the Dutch capital from Newcastle on a daily basis.
Alternatively, travellers can sail from Hull to Rotterdam with P&O Ferries or from Harwich to Hook of Holland with Stena Line. |
