Travellers planning to take ferries to France for a skiing holiday this winter have been reminded of the importance of being properly insured.
The Ski Club of Great Britain said that failing to arrange cover, or not being insured for extra activities, can have "serious implications".
People planning excursions such as off-piste skiing, touring and tobogganing were urged to check their policies to see if they are fully covered for these pursuits.
Customers were also advised to see if their insurance is limited to certain altitudes and whether it includes cover for any legal expenses incurred during a skiing holiday.
Caroline Stuart Taylor, chief executive of the Ski Club of Great Britain, said: "Skiers and snowboarders often get caught out when it comes to insurance. Buying a travel insurance policy is often not enough.
"The Ski Club urges people to check that they are covered for winter sports and that they read the small print to ensure all activities they will be participating in are covered."
Travellers can take ferries to Calais from Dover, which are provided by P&O Ferries and
Seafrance, and drive to south-east France to visit the country's ski resorts.
LD Lines operates ferries to Le Havre from Portsmouth, while
Brittany Ferries offers Caen and St Malo ferry links from the same port.
