Those heading on Spanish holidays via
ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao or Santander may find it easier to tour the country once they get there.
Many people stepping off in northern Spain may head across to Barcelona and from there, reaching the rest of the country by high-speed rail will be easier than it used to be, as network provider Renfe is now allowing people to buy tickets internationally.
It means those leaving the car at home and not flying to the country can get about swiftly, with ticket holders being able to travel from the Catalan city to Madrid.
Founder of SilverRail Technologies Aaron Gowell said: "The addition of Renfe's tickets moves us closer to our vision of one global rail ticketing platform that makes buying rail as easy as purchasing flights."
Such a development might make it easier to travel by rail from other ferry destinations as well.
One reason a tour of Spain may be popular is that the recent Post Office Holiday Money Report revealed the country to be the cheapest in Europe for Britons to holiday in.
