Ireland backed as great escape from Olympic fever

Britons who have had enough of the Olympic fever already may want to jump on ferries from Holyhead to Dublin and enjoy a quiet break in Ireland.

And Tourism Ireland has advised Londoners who want to flee the city to do just that, in its 'Escape the Madness' campaign.

It has created a new film highlighting the appeal of a trip across the water, featuring actor Chris O'Dowd of Bridesmaids and The IT Crowd fame.

Minister of state for sport and tourism Michael Ring said: "This is the latest stage in our €0.5 million (£0.4 million) advertising campaign to promote Ireland during the Olympics and I'm delighted to say that it's great fun."

Visitors to Dublin may find there is a lot less madness on the city's Dart system than the Tube, while few things can be more fun and relaxing than a trip beyond the city to the greenery of the Wicklow Mountains.
