Irish Ferries has reassured its passengers that they do not need a passport to travel on its services from the Republic of Ireland to Britain.
The company offers
ferries from Rosslare to Pembroke, as well as Dublin to Holyhead ferry crossings that provide access to Wales and England for travellers coming from Ireland.
In order to sail from the Republic of Ireland to Britain, passengers only require a valid form of identification, such as a driving licence, rather than a full passport.
Irish Ferries compared this arrangement to the rules laid out by airlines, which require travellers to carry a passport to fly between the two destinations.
Several other companies offer services across the Irish Sea, including
Stena Line, which operates crossings on the Fishguard to Rosslare ferry route, as well as ferries to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire from Holyhead.
Both P&O Ferries and
Norfolkline Irish Sea serve the Liverpool to Dublin ferry link.
