Irish Ferries has continued its campaign to attract more people to the ferry travel market this year, highlighting the benefits that are available with regards to luggage security.
The operator pointed out that more than 40 million pieces of baggage were lost by airlines in 2007 - eight million more than in the previous year.
In an effort to 'make the case' for sea travel, Irish Ferries said that customers have the peace of mind of having their bags with them during ferry crossings, combined with the flexibility of bringing as many cases as they like at no extra charge.
Declan Mescall, the company's head of passenger sales, said: "While many airlines continue to shoot themselves in the foot with their poor service, self-drive holidays by ferry are sailing ahead as holidaymakers realise the benefits of competitive pricing, short check-in times, space to relax and to enjoy the journey complete with all belongings."
Irish Ferries announced last month that it was joining a campaign organised by the Passenger Shipping Association to promote the ferry market.
People who decide to travel with the firm can catch
ferries from Holyhead to Dublin or use its Rosslare to Roscoff ferry route.
