Islanders have say on ferry route
CalMac has invited islanders to comment on its service
Islanders on Mull have been invited to take part in a survey on the Caledonian MacBrayne
ferry service.
The move comes amid mounting criticism of CalMac from many residents.
They have called for better integration with train services and a long-term plan to base the ferry on Mull instead of on the mainland.
A CalMac spokesman said the service aimed to balance the needs of locals against the large numbers of tourists using the route.
However, Sandy Brunton, of the Mull and Iona Community Trust, said the service was focused on tourists and did not reflect the needs of islanders.
"The ferry is based on the mainland, which means all the service, supplies and crews are based on the mainland," he said.
"What we're trying to do is to encourage ferries to be based at their home ports so the economic impact is for the island."
Hugh Dan MacLennan, CalMac's head of customer care, said: "What we have here is a community of 3,000 people, and what we have to operate is a service that accommodates 800,000 people in a year.
"And with the best will in the world, there is no way we are going to please all the people all the time.
"What we have to work on is trying to please the majority of the people."
