Isle of Man Steam Packet Company carries vintage buses

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company carries vintage buses
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company carried some unusual cargo earlier this month when it transported two former Manx buses back to the island.

Jurby Transport Museum arranged for the vintage vehicles to be brought back to the Isle of Man on the Steam Packet Company's Heysham to Douglas ferry route.

The buses are now installed at the museum, which is set to open in time for Easter 2010 and is planning a vintage transport event in July.

Mark Woodward, chief executive of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, said: "It is important we help to maintain the island's heritage in any way that we can, so we were more than happy to provide assistance towards the transportation."

Based in a former World War II hangar, Jurby Transport Museum will house around 25 exhibits, including privately owned vehicles and commercial road transports.

Travellers will be able to visit the attraction by taking ferries to the Isle of Man from Liverpool or Heysham with the Steam Packet Company.

The operator also provides ferries to Dublin and Belfast from its home port of Douglas.
