The Steam Packet Company is preparing to handle increasing passenger numbers on its Isle of Man ferry crossings this month as the 2009 Manx Grand Prix (MGP) gets underway.
Manannan, the company's new fast ferry, will be used to transport people to the Isle of Man for the motorcycling event, which will run from August 22nd to September 4th this year.
First launched in 1930, the MGP is held over six laps of the Isle of Man's famous TT motorbike course.
The
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company said that Manannan is "well prepared" for the grand prix, having operated a busy schedule of Isle of Man ferry services during this year's TT event.
Mark Woodward, chief executive of the ferry operator, said: "Manannan's additional speed, as well as comfort and on-board facilities, are very good news for visitors to the Manx Grand Prix and the island.
"We now have a fast craft that is the equal to if not better than anything else around the British Isles. This is a clear statement of our desire to provide the highest possible standards of service and facilities for our passengers."
The Steam Packet Company provides Isle of Man ferries from the ports of Liverpool and Heysham on the British mainland. Travellers can also catch ferries to Dublin and Belfast from the operator's home port of Douglas.
