Isle of Wight attractions to offer free entry | | | | 29 August 2008 | Holidaymakers planning to hop on cheap ferries to the Isle of Wight in September may have the nice surprise of finding that many of the island's top attractions are free to enter on certain days.
Isle of Wight Tourism announced that entry fees will be waived at a number of destinations as a result of an English Heritage and Civic Trust Heritage Open Days scheme.
The event will be held from September 11th to 14th. It will include attractions such as Dimbola Lodge in Freshwater, which is famous for being the former home of Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron and will be free to enter on September 12th.
Other locations that will charge no entry fee include the Needles Old Battery on Alum Bay, the Museum of Island History in Newport and Quarr Abbey in Ryde, all of which will be free on September 13th.
In addition to free entry, the scheme will give visitors the chance to visit unusual sites that are normally closed to the public and participate in a series of walks and talks. |
