Jersey, a destination easily accessible by ferry, provides a "great opportunity" for British holidaymakers who fancy a trip to the continent but are put off by the unfavourable exchange rate, according to the local tourist board.
Research carried out by TNS in conjunction with Jersey Tourism revealed that 41 per cent of the British population are unaware that sterling is the currency used on the Channel Island.
In a poll that asked 1,000 people to name the official currency of Jersey, 17 per cent of respondents said the euro, another 17 per cent said they didn't know and seven per cent believed it to be another currency.
David de Carteret, director of marketing for Jersey Tourism, said: "A trip to Jersey provides all the benefits of a holiday on the continent - offering more hours of sunshine than anywhere in the British Isles, beautiful beaches and good value food and drink.
"Consumers don't need to pay more for a cafe latte, a glass of Bordeaux or a pint of Stella Artois when they can save in Jersey by sticking with sterling."
Jersey ferry services are available from the ports of Weymouth, Poole and Portsmouth with
Condor Ferries.
