Keen on greener cheaper ferries | | | | 09 August 2008 | | Source: TBA | ferry travel has been described as a convenient, cost-effective and
greener way for holidaymakers to travel abroad.
Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour
Operators, said: "Ferry travel is increasingly popular as Britons
become more aware of the carbon footprint left by their holidays and
look for alternatives to stepping on a plane."
He also pointed to convenience and the price of taking the family
abroad by sea as reasons why people are choosing ferries.
These sentiments were echoed by travellers at the Port of Dover as the
summer holidays began.
Matt and Sarah Carter were heading to the south of France with their
sons, five-year-old William and three-year-old Oliver.
Sarah said: "We find it easier with our little boys to travel by
ferry, and it means we can load the car up with everything we need. "We have done it ever since our eldest William was born."
