The cost and convenience of the new LD Lines Dover to Boulogne ferry service will enable the crossing to provide a genuine alternative to flights, the operator has claimed.
LD Lines announced this week that it will deploy a new fast ferry from Dover to Boulogne from May 29th, cutting journey times and enabling the company to boost its frequency on the route.
Nick Stevens, a spokesman for the carrier, said that the service will rival flights provided by budget airlines, which have become less appealing to travellers in recent times.
"Low-cost airlines aren't low-cost anymore if you add on the airport and other operators' taxes," he said.
"Airport procedures mean actual journey times are considerably extended and uncomfortable. Travelling by car, by ferry and now particularly by fast ferry, provides the traveller with so many unique advantages."
The new LD Lines Dover to Boulogne ferry service will be operated by a 112-metre catamaran, the first ever freight-carrying high-speed vessel to sail on the Dover straits.
Passengers will be able to travel on up to four return ferry crossings provided by the ship every day.
