LD Lines has become the first cross channel ferry operator to offer a self-service check-in option to its passengers.
The company is trialling foot passenger check-in kiosks on its
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre.
It is aiming to introduce a self-service check-in option for people who are travelling with vehicles between Portsmouth and Le Havre before the peak summer season gets underway.
Christophe Santoni, the company's managing director, said that while customers can still use the traditional methods of checking in, the new facility provides a "modern, fast and convenient alternative".
He added: "This is initially being introduced on the Portsmouth to Le Havre route throughout this summer and then if, as anticipated, positive customer feedback is received, we will look towards introducing self check-in
facilities at all other ports to which we operate."
LD Lines also operates
ferries from Dover to Boulogne and a Newhaven to Dieppe ferry service.
The company is currently working in partnership with
TransEuropa Ferries to provide
ferries from Ramsgate to Ostend in Belgium.
