LD Lines has introduced a free application for use on the iPhone, as well as the iPod touch and the recently launched iPad.
Travellers can use the tool to find out exact sailing times and other information relating to the company's services, including its
ferries from Dover to Boulogne and the Ramsgate to Ostend ferry route.
LD Lines is reportedly the first cross channel ferry operator to offer an application of this kind.
The company has already implemented a high-tech innovation this year with the introduction of self-service check-in kiosks for passengers taking
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre.
Currently available to foot passengers, the facilities are set to be made available to customers with vehicles in the near future.
Announcing the launch last month, LD Lines managing director Christope Santoni said: "As well as enjoying the onboard experience, it is very important that all our customers are provided with an efficient, hassle-free service at our ports.
"Whilst passengers will still be able to choose the traditional check-in methods, this new facility will provide a modern, fast and convenient alternative, further improving levels of service."
Travellers heading to France this year also have the option of taking
ferries from Dover to Calais with
SeaFrance.
