LD Lines to launch new cross-Channel ferry option | | | | 26 November 2008 | LD Lines has confirmed that it will introduce a "major new travel option" for cross-Channel ferry passengers in 2009 when it launches the first service between Dover and Dieppe.
This will represent a significant shift away from the traditional network of ferry crossings from Dover, which have linked the English port to Calais, Dunkerque and Boulogne in north-eastern France.
The new route is scheduled to get underway in February, providing one daily round trip from Monday to Friday with services leaving Dover at 18:00 each day and departing from Dieppe at 12:30 local time.
LD Lines' Seven Sisters ferry will operate the service, offering capacity for 300 cars and up to 600 passengers.
Christophe Santoni, the company's managing director, said: "The Dover Strait is the biggest ferry market in the world and we have identified for some time that this new route would be a commercial advantage for LD Lines to provide a network on the western Channel and Dover Strait."
He added: "Freight and tourist customers will be saving 250km drive time by using this service compared to driving to western France from the short sea channel ports."
LD Lines also plans to launch a ferry crossing from Dover to Boulogne in July 2009, which will join its existing services from Portsmouth to Le Havre and from Newhaven to Dieppe. |
