LD Lines has announced that it will deploy the largest fast ferry ever to operate cross channel services on its Dover to Boulogne ferry route in May.
The introduction of the brand new 112-metre catamaran will make LD Lines the first French company to operate high-speed crossings on the short sea routes from Dover ferry port.
Travellers planning to catch
ferries from Dover to Boulogne will be offered a wider range of options from May 29th, with the new vessel increasing daily frequency from two to six return sailings.
The catamaran will operate four of the return services to Boulogne, with LD Lines' conventional ship providing the remaining two as well as a single daily crossing on the Dover to Dieppe ferry route.
Christophe Santoni, managing director of the ferry operator, said: "This is a very exciting, innovative step forward for LD Lines and with the introduction of this new high-speed ferry, we will be dramatically revolutionising ferry transport across the channel, with a style of service never experienced before on the Dover Straits.
"We will be offering a unique, combined high-speed and conventional ferry sailing frequency via the Boulogne service, providing great appeal and choice, to meet the demands of tourist and freight customers and create new markets."
LD Lines introduced its Dover to Boulogne ferry service in February this year, some six months ahead of the date originally planned. The company also provides ferries to Le Havre from Portsmouth and Rosslare.
