LD Lines to offer new Dover-Boulogne crossing |  | | | 23 July 2008 | It has been confirmed that LD Lines will operate a new passenger ferry service between the ports of Dover and Boulogne from July 1st 2009.
The crossing will inaugurate the new Ro Ro terminal in Boulogne, a port which represents an investment of 35 million (£27.7 million) by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Freight and tourist traffic, including coaches, cars and foot passengers, will be carried on the new service.
There will be four return sailings every day, with a crossing time of one hour 45 minutes, operated by the Norman Spirit, a vessel with capacity for 1,850 passengers, 700 cars and 110 lorries.
Francis Leroy, president of the Boulogne Chamber of Commerce, said the new service represents "a significant development for the future of the port of Boulogne".
LD Lines director general Christophe Santoni added: "In our first year of operation we expect to carry in the region of 120,000 lorries, 130,000 cars and 300,000 passengers, providing a firm foundation for future growth via the service and through the new hub-port Boulogne."
The ferry operator currently offers crossings from Portsmouth, Newhaven and Rosslare to the French ports of Dieppe and Le Havre. |
