Art enthusiasts planning ferry trips to Le Havre in northern France over the coming months may be interested in visiting the Musee Malraux to see a recently launched exhibition.
Presented in partnership with the Fine Arts Museum of Bordeaux, the art showcase explores evolutions in the ways that artists have depicted ports and harbours in their work.
More than 100 pieces, including paintings and photographs, feature in the display, which looks at how artistic perceptions of ports were affected by economic developments in the 19th century.
Many artists have been inspired by the sense of excitement and activity that is often associated with ports and harbours, including Monet, Pissarro and Marquet.
The Le Havre exhibition entitled 'Sur le Quais', meaning 'On the Wharves' will be open at the Musee Malraux until January 25th 2009.
Visitors to the French town can visit a number of other museums and cultural centres during their stay, including the Natural History Museum and Notre-Dame Cathedral.
LD Lines offers regular ferry crossings to Le Havre from Rosslare in Ireland and Portsmouth.
