A new poll has placed Liverpool as the friendliest in the world for a city break, which could encourage tourists to take cheap ferries to the north-west.
Comedian Griff Rhys Jones was present to hand out the prizes at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London last night (September 4th) as Conde Nast Traveller announced the winners of its Readers' Travel Awards.
Fans of the magazine placed the former European Capital of Culture as fourth in the Best UK City category, narrowly missing out on the top three, which were taken by London, Edinburgh and Bath.
However, Liverpool was voted top in terms of the amiability of its residents.
"Liverpool is the friendliest city, with a top-ranking for people/hospitality, and provides the best value for money," the magazine said.
Travellers who enjoy experiencing local cuisine and culture during their trips might also be interested in booking a Liverpool ferry to Ireland this year to check out the Galway International Oyster Festival, taking place between September 22nd and 25th.
