'Locals' guide' to Scotland published | | | | 06 October 2008 | People planning ferry trips to Scotland or one of the country's northern islands can now take advantage of a new guide published by national tourism association VisitScotland.
Real Scotland The Locals' Guide has been created with the intention of informing visitors of the country's "best insider tips, hidden gems and off-the-beaten-track Scotland experiences".
People taking ferry crossings around Scotland will be able to make use of the guide's list of Britain's most northerly points, which is likely to include port destinations in the Orkney and Shetland islands.
The publication also includes top ten lists from local experts, including run-downs of fishermen's best fish and chip shops, stonemasons' favourite buildings and rangers' wildlife hotspots.
Kathryn Macdonald, product manager at VisitScotland, said: "We wanted to give visitors a tool to discover more of Scotland even if they have come many times before.
"From Portsoy's traditional Small Boats festival to the best place to spot otters, Real Scotland is crammed with inspiring fresh ideas and a touch of humour, which I'm sure readers will enjoy."
In 2009, Scotland will celebrate its first 'homecoming year' to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, meaning there will be plenty of events and activities for visitors to take part in. |
