London offers a wide range of attractions that all the family can enjoy, according to a spokesperson for an agency promoting the city.
The representative of London & Partners - the promotion organisation for the English capital - said: "Families come to London to enjoy some of the best and most popular museums and galleries in the world - most of which are free of charge for everyone."
She noted that these experiences vary "from seeing the Egyptian mummies at the British Museum, to discovering a real piece of rock from the moon at the Science Museum, to unearthing the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum".
Families taking
ferries from Dover to Calais on their return journey may enjoy a number of other aspects of London as well, the expert commented - such as West End stage shows.
The spokeswoman added that the annual Kid's Week in August sees cheap tickets sold to youngsters in the school holidays, with 73,000 attending productions during the promotion last year.
Visitors from France may also be interested in things they would not see at home - such as the royal pageantry around Buckingham Palace - as well as a number of famous buildings and places such as Covent Garden Market or Trafalgar Square, both of which are close to the West End theatres.
People travelling from Dover to London must first pass though the county of Kent, nicknamed the Garden of England.
Families might like to stop there during the trip and enjoy some of this countryside, such as the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which stretches from the edge of London to the famous white cliffs of Dover.
As well as offering scenery and wildlife, its attractions include the traditional orchards at Cherry Down, where apples, pears, plums and cherries are grown and harvested.
While some of these orchards have been around for many years, the most recent one was planted in 2008.
