Holyhead, one of the leading Welsh ferry ports, will enjoy a boost in profile this weekend when it welcomes a luxury cruise liner.
Westerdam, a ten-deck vessel owned by Holland America Line, will arrive at the port in Anglesey tomorrow (August 7th) and bring up to 2,000 passengers with it.
A number of special events have been arranged to mark the occasion, including traditional Welsh dancing, street theatre and a performance by royal harpist Clare Jones.
The visit is expected to provide a number of benefits for the region, with Pip Cockeram of Anglesey Tourism Partnership saying it will give the local economy a "huge economic boost".
Stena Line, which operates regular
ferries from Holyhead to Dublin, has contributed to the recent development of the port in cooperation with Anglesey Aluminium and the Welsh government.
A number of new facilities have been added for passengers, including a gift shop, information centre, disabled toilets and an internet access point.
Irish Ferries also serves the Holyhead to Dublin ferry route, while Stena Line offers
ferries from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire.
