Malaga to host Max Ernst exhibition | | | | 14 August 2008 | The Spanish port city of Malaga's Museo Picasso will next month open an exhibition of the work of influential painter, sculptor and graphic artist Max Ernst.
Modern art enthusiasts may be tempted to hop on cheap ferries to Malaga to see the display, which examines an artist who was one of one of the most important figures in the Dadaist and Surrealist movements.
Ernst was once described by Andre Breton, the main founder of Surrealism, as possessing "the most magnificently tormented mind that could possibly exist".
The artist's work often has unusual effect on viewers, owing to his combination of playful and disturbing images.
One of the largest private art holdings in Europe, the Museum Wurth, has lent a selection of pieces to the Museo Picasso Malaga for the forthcoming exhibition, which will run from September 22nd to March 1st.
A number of companies offer ferry crossings around the Spanish coast and the Mediterranean, including Iscomar, Balearia and SNCM. |
