A new exhibition will be launched at the Van Gogh Museum in October, a development that could make Amsterdam ferry breaks a tempting prospect for art lovers.
The display, entitled Van Gogh's Letters - The Artist Speaks will be open at the museum from October 9th to January next year.
People with an interest in the painter's work can catch ferries to Amsterdam from Newcastle with
DFDS Seaways to visit the exhibition, which offers a fascinating new perspective on his art.
Using quotations from Van Gogh's letters, the display guides visitors through his views on his own paintings and those of his contemporaries, providing an insight into the mind of one of the most famous artists in history.
Van Gogh wrote more than 800 letters during his lifetime, many of which were sent to his brother Theo.
Also launching at the Van Gogh Museum this year is a retrospective dedicated to the Belgian artist Alfred Stevens, which will open on September 18th.
As well as catching ferries to Amsterdam, travellers can reach the Netherlands by taking ferries to Hook of Holland from Harwich with
Stena Line or using the Hull to Rotterdam ferry route served by P&O Ferries.
