Following the recent profile boost for sea travel resulting from the volcanic ash crisis, the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) will keep the industry in the public eye over the coming weeks with National Ferry Fortnight.
Launched on May 8th and due to run until May 22nd, the industry event will endorse and celebrate ferry travel through a range of promotions and initiatives.
In its introduction to National Ferry Fortnight, the PSA pointed out that "taking a ferry means a stress-free check-in, no worries about going over your baggage allowance and plenty of room on board to relax and get into the holiday mood".
The association also provided some "intriguing facts and figures" about maritime travel, revealing that more than 70 destinations can be reached by sea from the UK, from Santander in Spain to Esbjerg in Denmark.
Ferries have been carrying travellers overseas for hundreds of years, with records showing that the first Isle of Wight ferry service operated in 1420.
P&O Ferries and
Stena Line are among the operators that will be taking part in National Ferry Fortnight, with the latter due to launch its new Stena Hollandica vessel this weekend.
Of course aferry.co.uk will be enjoying National Ferry Fortnight as well, so keep your eye on our site to see what offers we have to mark this celebration of all things ferry.
