People with a passion for nature and wildlife have been encouraged to book a ferry crossing with
DFDS Seaways this year to explore one of Denmark's most scenic and important regions.
VisitDenmark described the company's Harwich to Esbjerg ferry route as "the best way" to experience the area known as the Wadden Sea on the country's south-west coast.
Stretching from Blavandshuk to the Tonder marshland, this region will officially become Denmark's third national park in September.
The national tourism agency pointed out that the Wadden Sea is "of particular importance" in ecological terms as it provides a wintering and stopover point for up to 12 million migratory birds every year.
Visitors can also book a place on one of the daily nature tours that set off from Esbjerg harbour to see some of the spotted seals that live in the area.
A popular attraction for travellers to visit is the Wadden Sea Centre, which features exhibitions on life in the region from the middle ages to the present day, local wildlife and other subjects.
DFDS Seaways offers ferries from Harwich to Esbjerg every other day between June and August and three weekly crossings between September and May.
The company also operates a Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route.
