Wightlink has encouraged nature lovers to take ferries to the Isle of Wight this year to discover the island's flora and fauna.
Travellers can keep an eye out for a number of endangered species on the Isle of Wight, including the red squirrel.
Several other types of animal are found on the island, where they are safe from mainland predators, including the dormouse, the water vole and an extremely rare orange and brown butterfly known as the Glanville Fritillary.
People who have an interest in flora can follow
Wightlink's rare plant trail, which offers a guide to the most noteworthy flowers and plants in various garden collections, nature reserves and outdoor areas.
Birdwatchers will also find plenty to interest them on Isle of Wight ferry breaks, including the rare corn bunting, which can be seen at Whale Chine on the south coast.
Other avian species found on the island include the Dartford warbler, the nightjar and the water rail.
Travellers interested in discovering the Isle of Wight's flora and fauna can take ferries to Ryde or Fishbourne from Portsmouth with
Wightlink, or alternatively use the operator's Lymington to Yarmouth ferry service.
