Passengers planning ferry crossings with Wightlink will soon be transported on a new ship that is on its way back to the UK.
Wight Light is the first of Wightlink's new Wight class ships that will be used on the car ferry crossing route between Lymington and Yarmouth.
The vessel set sail from Kraljevica shipyard on August 16th and is being crewed on her way back to the Solent by a Wightlink team led by Captain Steve Baker.
This journey is expected to take three weeks and will include two stops, first in Gibraltar and then in Vigo on the western coast of the Iberian peninsula.
Wight Light was docked in Croatia in order to take part in an extensive series of sea trials. Having successfully completed these, the ship is now set to enter service on schedule in autumn 2008.
In addition to its connection between Lymington and Yarmouth, Wightlink operates ferry crossings to Fishbourne and Ryde from Portsmouth.
