Holidaymakers taking ferry trips to France in 2009 will be able to experience the new character of the Paris Ile-de-France region, according to the country's government tourist office.
An advertising campaign was recently launched by the tourist board that bore the slogan 'The new Paris Ile-de-France'.
Work by the artists Jeff Koons and Patrick Blanc was a significant part of depicting the region's new image and art initiatives will be an important aspect of its appeal to tourists in 2009.
The Pompidou Centre will play host to a new Wassily Kandinsky exhibition, while the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais will open a display dedicated to Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
People interested in experiencing the broad range of cultural offerings in the French capital can use the Paris Museum Pass, which guarantees entry to more than 60 museums and monuments.
The Paris Ile-de-France region is located in the north-east of the country, not far from the ferry ports of Le Havre, Dieppe, Calais and Dunkerque.
