One year after LD Lines took over the operation of the Transmanche Newhaven Ferry service, we have the chance to celebrate success. The two new ships, the Seven Sisters and the Cote D'Albatre were both commissioned and built specifically for the Newhaven Dieppe crossing. Any residents or visitors who have seen the ferry turning in the river have been able to marvel at the engineering feat of turning in such a tight circle.
Crossing figures have risen steadily and the comfort on board the ships, are an experience not to be missed. Improvements have been made to the online booking service. Both foot and car passengers now travel from the terminal near the railway station on Railway Quay.
Long term plans for the Port are still in the negotiation stage. It is hoped that a new Ferry Terminal will be built and operational within five years. Meanwhile LD Lines are investing in their current location to enhance the passenger experience while waiting to board the vessels.
Dieppe as a destination has been much loved and explored by local Sussex residents, with many repeat customers using the route and new customers choosing to avoid the carbon footprint of short-haul flights. Dieppe Market is a particular favourite.
A particularly rewarding outcome for local residents, is the Summer timetable including daily crossings to Le Havre. Le Havre is a large town with Honfleur close by. Le Havre has a large Fort which will soon be opened to the public as a Botanical Garden.
Newhaven Strategic Network has continued to work with LD Lines to promote the Ferry service. We would like to extend our best wishes to mark the operation's first birthday. We wish them many successful years for the future.
