The past five years have seen
Norfolkline consistently increase its presence in the cross channel ferry market and it is now a major rival to P&O Ferries and
Seafrance, according to a new report.
IRN Research compiled figures showing that
Norfolkline's operations on the Dover to Dunkerque ferry route have allowed it to take market share from its competitors for the fifth consecutive year.
The company is now thought to have a 28 per cent share of the Dover ferry market, compared to just four per cent in 2004.
Norfolkline is set to carry some 2.5 million passengers and 800,000 cars in 2009, an increase on the 600,000 cars it transported last year.
Chris Newey, the operator's general manager of English Channel passenger services, said the company is bucking the economic trend by showing consistent growth.
He added: "We put
Norfolkline's success down to three things: our brand new ships which offer passengers a consistent high quality experience unlike the mixture of old and new offered by the competition; dedicated decks for freight and tourist passengers ensuring that there is no need for lorry and car drivers to mix; and Dunkerque being a less congested terminal than Calais."
Norfolkline also operates ferries to Dublin and Belfast from Liverpool and a Rosyth to Zeebrugge ferry route.
