Olympics 'to cause exodus from UK'

Olympics 'to cause exodus from UK'
More Britons could be catching ferries to France this summer as a new survey has shown many would rather be out of the country when the event takes place.

The survey by ABTA - The Travel Association has shown that while 2.5 million people intend to take time off work to go to events, as many as 40 per cent are planning to take some time off during the fortnight, which runs from July 27th to August 12th.

Although this may be a common time for many to head away as it is the start of the school holidays, 30 per cent of those taking time off said they plan to ignore them, with 12 per cent saying they plan to go away to specifically give it a miss as they do not like sport.

Head of communications at ABTA Victoria Bacon said:  "For those who don't love sports or want to escape the crowds, going abroad will provide a welcome alternative."

Paris may be a good destination as some in the city may have a particular motive for ignoring the Games, with the French capital missing out to London in the IOC vote in 2005.
