P&O Ferries is celebrating the beginning of the caravan holiday season and has encouraged travellers to consider France as their destination this year.
In his blog for the company, John Hillman writes that
P&O Ferries has been carrying caravan owners to France on its
Dover to Calais ferry route "for many decades now".
The French have a "very strong tradition of camping holidays", according to Mr Hillman, meaning there are plenty of sites across the country that offer excellent amenities and easy access to popular destinations.
Visitors have several regions to choose from, including Normandy, which is easy to reach from the UK and boasts a scenic coastline.
P&O Ferries also recommends venturing further south to explore the Alpine foothills in the south-east or experience the "rural charms" of Provence.
The company competes with
Seafrance on the
Dover to Calais ferry route, while
Norfolkline offers
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque.
LD Lines also provides an alternative with its Dover to Boulogne ferry service, along with ferries to Le Havre from Portsmouth for people planning to visit Normandy.
