P&O Ferries has highlighted some of the "fantastic beaches" in the Pas de Calais region in northern France, which travellers can reach in less than two hours from Dover.
Writing in a blog for the company, John Hillman pointed out that there are just as many scenic locations on the northern coast of France as in the south.
One destination recommended by Mr Hillman is Wissant, which he described as a "quintessentially Gallic coastal resort".
Travellers can sail with
P&O on the
Dover to Calais ferry route to explore the historic fishing village and spend some time relaxing on the beach, which is particularly popular among wind and kite surfers.
Mr Hillman also highlighted Wimereux, which is located a little further along the coast from Wissant.
The town boasts a number of peaceful sandy beaches and several seafront restaurants where holidaymakers can sit down for a relaxing meal.
SeaFrance also operates regular crossings on the Dover to Calais ferry route, while
Norfolkline provides
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque.
