P&O Ferries has reminded travellers that, while the summer holiday season may be winding down, there is still a strong reason to take a break in France over the coming weeks - the beginning of the harvest season in the Champagne region.
Writing in his blog for the company, John Hillman said a long weekend in north-east France this September will be a tempting option for people who appreciate champagne.
The region is home to famous names such as Dom Perignon, Cristal, Veuve Clicquot and Bollinger.
Holidaymakers can take a
ferry to France and drive the short distance to the Champagne region to tour some of its vineyards and experience the sense of tradition and excitement associated with harvest season.
Mr Hillman pointed out that the majority of producers in the area offer tours, from the "small upstarts" to the "global superstars".
P&O operates regular daily crossings on the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is also served by
SeaFrance.
Other travel options include
LD Lines'
ferries from Dover to Boulogne and the
Norfolkline/
DFDS Seaways service from Dover to Dunkerque.
