P&O Ferries has revealed that it is expecting a substantial increase in passenger numbers over the coming weeks as travellers set off on Easter getaways.
The company predicted that nearly 200,000 people will make use of its ferries to France, Holland, Belgium and Spain during the spring holiday period.
Most people across the UK will be enjoying the four-day Easter weekend between Friday April 2nd and Monday April 5th this year, while the majority of schools will break up from April 2nd to 18th.
For those planning to take advantage of their days off by heading to Europe,
P&O Ferries offered some "top tips for sightseeing on the near continent", starting with the Keukenhof gardens near Amsterdam.
Travellers can take
ferries from Hull to Rotterdam and visit the site to see its annual bulb-growing display, which will run until May 16th.
P&O Ferries encouraged art lovers to book a crossing on the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry route and visit the Spanish city's Guggenheim museum, which is home to works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and others.
Holidaymakers planning to take
ferries from Dover to Calais can visit attractions such as the Jardin des Boves in Arras and the Nausicaa aquarium in Boulogne, while those travelling on the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry route can head to Belgium's Plopsiland theme park.
